I designed my whole Palm Beach living room around this one thing

I’ve lived in New York City for over twenty years and never saw myself spending much time elsewhere. But like many people, when Covid hit, I found my perspective shifting. None of the people in my life with a place in Florida (FLORIDA!!! thank you Taylor) have ever regretted it. Escaping winter, a fun destination to gather and let’s face it, some nice tax breaks.
So how did I land in Palm Beach of all places? I’m a young(er) snowbird so I didn’t want to go full retirement community but Miami is just not my vibe. I had visited Palm Beach a few times and I loved the fashion, the hedges, and the New York adjacent restaurants. Basically all of the important things! I didn’t see myself actually bring a resident outside of a fantasy that involved me in a convertible with a headscarf on. But then again, I never knew the pandemic was coming…and now that it has happened, I think I have majorly eased into the lifestyle.
We’re now spending half the year in Palm Beach, and our apartment was finished last year. Come visit! This is the first home/apt/condo I had ever purchased!! When we first bought it, I immediately started furniture shopping. I was thrilled at the idea of a new project, and more square footage than we have in NYC. Plus, the vibe is very much what my inner brain feels like. There’s a lot going on!
So where did I begin? I ran head first into an incredible light fixture (above)from Jonathan Adler. It spoke to me. It felt like candy. It felt like bubbles. It felt like joy! I wanted to look at it all the time and I wanted the rest of our house to feel like that too. It hangs in the dining zone and really anchors the main room. It almost feels like jewelry. Something that catches your eye and gets people talking. I truly feIt it needed to be there, despite not knowing what kind of couch we should get or what colors the walls should be. I just knew the whole apartment was going to be themed around that one piece.
Once I bought it, I got great advice from world famous interior designer Nathan Turner. (He also owns Wallshoppe, the wallpaper company whose designs are in the living room and bathroom and guest bedroom) He told me to pick three colors and stick with them and the project would come together. So listened I did! I went with Pink/Blue/Sea Green, and everything came together from there. My advice for anyone decorating would be:
Decorating can feel overwhelming so find one piece that sparks emotion for you and build from there.
I worked with Design Assisted to get the project done and I love the way it turned out.
Here are some key pieces we used:
Now here are a few other of my favorite parts of our Palm Beach pad. More fun in this Domino story. Thoughts?! Let me know if you want more specific links to pieces in the comments.
