I watched all the NEW 2024 holiday movies so you don't have to!
11 Ho ho hot takes on this season's newest offerings.
I do appreciate Hollywood’s run at creating the next great holiday classic movie every year. The people in charge know that people are desperate for new content around this time and the upside of a classic holiday movie is endless, but let’s be real, most of them don’t hit. When they’re bad, my face looks like this…
SO. I watched the big ones this year so you can save some time! Now, be warned, I’m a quitter, if you can’t make me care what happens in the second half of the movie, I think you’ve failed, so…be warned! And to make it more interesting, I’ve compared my faves with the Rotten Tomato review ratings. Now let’s dive in!
THE GOOD!
Black Doves
I loved this start to finish. I know it is not a holiday movie but I needed to include it here because I devoured it. Kiera Knightly as a super secret spy by night and a posh mum by day!?! Count me in. This show follows Die Hard rules in that it takes place at the holiday but has nothing to do with Christmas. I feel
Seen that it has a 93 on RT!
Our Little Secret
Come on you grinches!! RT gives this a 38?? The culture montage in the opening credits is worth the price of admission alone! Lohan is charming. There is a hilarious gummy scene. I had a great time. This one is a WINNER!!!
Red One
Wow, I can I would not enjoy watching tv and movies with most of America based on these numbers. I really liked this! If you like Guardians of the Galaxy or the new Jumanji (or even Jumanji 2!) you will like this. I think it’s also the most creative take I have ever seen on the process of the North Pole. Rotten Tomatoes did not agree..37% ouch!!
Nonsense Xmas
This is exactly what is advertised, nonsense! Have it on the background of a party or while you are doing cookie baking and have a good time. RT ranks this as 100 but I think only a few reviews have been submitted so I don’t know what to do with that. Overall a good time.
Hot Frosty
This is absurd, but if you want a hallmark movie with a sprinkle more edge (a sprinkle!!!) you can watch this hotty perform Encino Man level acting. The people love this with a rating of 75%..
Queer Eye
Now, this is not a holiday movie or show but the new season is on another level, it has everything including a new interior designer that you will love to cry with.
Christmas Eve in Millers Point
I have NOT watched this yet but RT gives it a 78, but not sure what to make of that
THE MEH (not calling anything bad, because tis the season!
Nutcrackers
What. Is. This???
Wasn’t for me. Wasn’t funny. Wasn’t entertaining. Rotten Tomatoes and I see eye to eye on this with a 45% rating! So clearly I am a talented reviewer, right?
Dear Santa
Ugh it was just too much Jack Black being Jack Black. Also the plot holes were wild. But the child stars were sweet baby angels. The people agreeed with me because it has a 24% of Rotten Tomatoes. I prefer my JB in The Holiday.
The Merry Gentleman
Another one I agree with RT on, 45%. This one does feature Chad Michael Murray, so there’s that…and the old trope of going home to help your parents with their failing business. Frankly I was distracted by the lead character’s hats.
Carry On
Gahhh I wanted to like this. I wanted to love it! I love the actors. I like the idea of a tense movie playing out, but it was so slow for me. I guess I’m alone in that feeling though because RT has it at 86%!!
Alright everyone, what are YOU watching?
xo

PS: if you made it this far, I will be watching OLD holiday movies this week under my favorite blanket. Its from Chappywrap and the TLDR about these blankets is that they are not like cheap fleece blankets you find at a discount store. They are made in Germany and look high end and you can wash them and they are the one that John and I fight over on the couch!
I cannot get over how good the new season of Queer Eye is!! Jeremiah is so good!! And I do agree with your holiday movie ratings, though I did like Merry Gentlemen. I can add that the Taylor / Travis inspired one was NOT GOOD
I just watched Our Little Secret today. I enjoyed it, especially that ten year montage at the beginning. Thanks for the reviews of the rest!
