Whats a house meeting? Glad you asked. Its one of the ways I start my day! We are talking mornings here on Lobby Coffee and this is how I start mine in Maine. I’m one of those early to bed, early to rise types, and I genuinely look forward to the time between waking up and starting work.
Let’s do a morning in my life, shall we? And let me just say that this is the IDEAL morning, some days do NOT go like this, at ALL!
We have opted for no window treatments in the bedroom not because I am an exhibitionist but more because I like being synced with natures rhythm. (charge your crystals!) This also means sometimes the sun is still setting when I get into bed at night. I know. I am someone who would actually live outside if there were no bugs or weather or falling acorns to deal with so the more light and outdoor feel I can get inside, the better. Side note in Florida we wake up later because of the black out window treatments and I hate it. I am talking like 645am when I say late though. Lol.
Once I am up, I do meditation. This is one of the most annoying sentences to read, I am aware, but truly even 3 minutes makes a huge difference in my day. The days I don’t meditate are just more chaotic. I use Insight Timer and recommend it. You can start slow with even one minute meditations. I promise, it helps.
In Maine we are 25 min drive from our fave coffee shop, Solo Pane, so we do what we call “home joe” and I always look forward to my first cup of coffee. This is the coffee maker we use! John and I swear by LL Bean Maple Mornings coffee which is only available at their flagship store in Freeport, Maine. Go if you can! It is so good(the store and the coffee). And are we so Maine to be drinking LL Bean coffee?! Dress for the job you want, people! (My mug is from Grossy Pelosi!)
We then we have a house meeting. DaFuq? This just means we go through what each of us is doing that day, what are we eating, what do we need to handle together, and anything else that is stressing us out or that we need to plan. This helps us to align and start the day as a team- it is really helpful for us! I recognize that if you have children, this is probably impossible but maybe you find you are able to do your house meetings the night before.
Then we get moving. Moogli needs to chase chipmunks and Ruth needs to be nervous that John is more than one foot away from her. I like getting my blood flowing in the AM and walks are easy to do here. My aspirational summer morning also includes a kayak(depends on the tide and the wind) and for the record I did that once last summer so dont be too impressed. But its on my Maine Bingo Board this summer!
Once we are back from the walk it is time for breakfast- right now we are on a smoothie kick. Do you kind of hate breakfast? Same. So smoothies are really easy and I find it helps regulate my mood a little too? Like I am not hangry or too wired with just coffee in my body until lunch. Smoothies as therapy. My current combo is Kachava powder, Vital Proteins collagen, spinach and Biome Fiber.
Then I kick work into gear around 9 to 9:30. I am much more of a morning person, and I like to start the day strong.
One habit I would love to kick is so much phone time in the morning. When I get up to the let the dogs out or even go to the bathroom, I am immediately checking my DM’s or emails and that feels like if I could not see my phone until 8am, that is something that could help my day start with less noise. But then again, how do i use my meditation app without touching my phone. And then I have to open my apps! I am not super human!
What do you think? I will do a much more manic morning routine soon in NYC.

(Sharing an option you didn't ask for so feel free to delete) - A new to me tool my husband got for our house - it's called the Brick and it's a block that I tap to block certain apps (i.e. social media for me) and I physically have to go to the brick to unblock them (it's on our microwave in the kitchen). So I've taken to "bricking" my phone during the work day or evening hours when my scrolling is the worst and i still need my phone for other reasons. https://getbrick.app/why
I don’t have window treatments on my bedroom windows either but that’s more because we don’t have window TRIM. Mr. Fixit (my husband) stopped short of finishing the job after replacing the windows. But I actually like waking up to natural light. Better than the alarm. My first coffee without speaking is a must and a high protein breakfast is a must before I start work at 9. No house meeting as my husband is usually getting ready for work when I wake up plus the no talking rule.
