I love to read, but the truth is that before I started using audio books, I read like…two books a year? Now I read two a month I would say? Because I read with my ears!! If you’re not following along, I mean listening to books via Audible, and I am very excited to partner with them on this post.
Audible is my constant companion. I love to walk around New York City and listen as I go- I just find it the best, most easy way to read frequently. I prefer a book to a podcast generally, I feel like it transports me.
As a major multitasker, I love doing chores while “reading” because I feel more accomplished. Sitting down and making time for a book and actually being able to stay down is just not something I can do right now. I’ll patch you in to my next therapy session, lol. So until I have reached inner zen and can do one thing at a time, I’ll be reading with my ears!! Some of my best tips are: preview the narrator!! If you don’t like their voice, don’t do the book. This doesn’t happen very often but when it does I cannot stick with the book. Narrators are important.
I also listen at 1.1 or 1.2. Not that I’m trying to rush, I just find it helps me stay with the story. And when there is an amazing narrator, the audiobooks truly can transport you into the book itself.
It is that time of year that people start to break down their faves. And I love a round-up! . Please note, I’m doing a separate celebrity memoir post because that’s a whole different category!!
ALSO- I have an offer for you! You can sign up for Audible Premium Plus at $0.99/month for three months (now through 12.31). And from now til 12.2, customers who sign up will also receive a $20 credit to be used to Audible. Also, the links below are affiliate links. Here are my favorites, anything I should add?

Still Life: This is the first book in the Inspector Gamesh series and the narrator is excellent. It’s such a cozy mystery. Great for winter.
Vera Wong’s Unsolicited Advice for Murder: Heartearming and cute .
Book Lovers: If you need a love story in your ears that isn’t cheesy and is smart and cute, this is for you,
The Alice Network: is such a great historical fiction book omg.
Three Women: Yes. And I need to watch the show.
The Universe Has Your Back: it’s such an easy self help listen if you’re feeling in a rut! And Gabby reads it! You can chunk it out chapter by chapter.
The Perfume Collector: I read it so long ago but I loved it.
Normal People: Super hot to listen to!! The accents!
Big Summer by Jennifer Weiner. Enough said!
Black Cake is so good and the narrator does an amazing job with so many different accents!
Less. Hilarious and the narrator makes this whole book. The tone. Everything.
Ghosts by Dolly Alderton.
The Plot. A great book made even better by the narrator again!! The Sequel just came out.
Lessons in Chem. I know the show is out but the book was so good!! Such an easy listen!!
The House in the Cerulean Sea. A charming little dream!! The narrator is exceptional.
All Fours. I was-obsessed with this book and part of the reason is that the author reads it and her tone and inflection is perfect. Feels like you’re listening to your friend tell you about a major train crash and your can’t look away!

I am a huuuuge Audible fan, especially for memoirs. My recs are: Save Me The Plums, From the Corner of the Oval, Eve, An Unfinished Love Story, Year of Yes, The Turnaway Study, True Biz, The Miseducation of Cameron Post, Come As You Are, Kitchen Confidential, The Education of an Idealist, She Said, Make Trouble, Hunger, Who Thought This Was A Good Idea,
I didn’t read it this year but Remarkably Bright Creatures is one of the best audiobooks I’ve listened to! And right now I’m listening to Malcom Gladwell’s “Talking to Strangers” and he produced it like an NPR podcast with original audio from interviews & news stories. I like it so far!
