What I wore on my book tour
If you liked something, you should look because its probably on sale!
I am coming to you less than a week after my book launch tour wrapped for my new novel: Sunny Side Up I am going to write more about my experience on the road and what I learned talking to you guys in all these different cities, but first, lets get the fluffy stuff out of the way because basically everything is on sale right now and I dont want you to miss out on these tour fits. Dont feel like scrolling? All the links are here: roundup Bonus points if you make it to the end as I will declare my Lobby Coffee (actual hotel Lobby Coffee from the trip) at the end!
Charleston
Burnt Red & Beige Striped Knit Ren Top
Burnt Red & Beige Striped Knit Ren Midi Skirt
Charleston, your humidity is no joke and I had to modify this outfit by cutting out the lining so I could get some ventilation. The good news is, if you want the look of an open knit without the peek-a-book vibes, the set is good to go as is. I am wearing the XXL and I am a size 18. It has some stretch to it. So glad I picked this for my event at Grace Atwoods house and for the event with Buxton Books. (they have Megababe GWP and signed copies FYI!)
Strand-NYC
Rachel Antonoff Lola Linen Blent Sleeveless Mini Dress
Bless the people who came out in 102 degree NYC to see me on my publication day in conversation with Becca Freeman, whose substack you should check out if you are a reader! The dress is perfect because its all about ABV(Always Be Venting) and the shoes are men’s Prada from The Real Real.
CBS MORNING SHOW
Miller Stretch-Linen Dickey Jacket
Issa Knit Polo
My interview with Gayle King on the CBS Morning Show was one of my favorite interviews I have ever done. Ms King made me feel so seen and special with her love for Sunny and I am obsessed with her. Watch the interview here. My butter yellow Veronica Beard suit was too small (as was the lilac suit below) so I head them tailored to fit just right by the experts from Alteration Specialists.
TODAY SHOW
Veronica Beard Miller Dickey Jacket
Veronica Beard Elbe Pleated Short
Issa Knit Polo
I loved this shorts suit for my Sunny Side Up inspired fashion segment and paired them with a gorgeous pair of comfy heels from the new brand Oya. They focus on well made shoes in larger sizes. The brand is New Zealand based, but the shoes are all made in Italy. A dream!
BOSTON
"Abortion is Healthcare" Crewneck
We drove straight from the TODAY show to this Boston event, so I’m calling this my car chic look. Rocking the jorts and the same shirt I wore with the suit. I also can’t forget my “abortion is healthcare” sweater, use LKFKATIE15 for 15% off!!
Dallas
The Dallas event was hosted at the Dallas Museum of Art and it was such a lovely venue. Unfortunately, my throat infection showed up that morning so this was probably the night I was not my most dazzling self, but I will be back! Its on my goal list. MK and I both have this outfit from Tuckernuck. She is 5’2 and I am 5’10 and its a hit on both of us!
Austin
After Dallas we headed to Austin with a quick stop at the Magnolia Restaurant in Waco! I love this set. Its so comfortable. The sizing is not indicative of fit because this fits me great and its not my size and I felt like the fringe on the skirt was very Austin.
Portland
"Abortion is Healthcare" Crewneck (Sweatshirt is super comfy and more budge friendly)
Striped pants(TW: They are $$$ and not on sale so maybe dont click)
We headed to this event straight from a 4 hour plane ride and a 2.5 hour drive, so my outfit was pretty comfortable because I was basically a husk at this point. But my spirits lifted as soon as I sat down to chat with John about Sunny. It felt like a homecoming and I loved connecting with my Mainers!! We took this photo because this group of friends all had on wild pants and I fit right in:)
Bonus Outfit: My NYTimes spread fit:
The Crease Jean Size 36
The City Sandal Size 44
Finally, my outfit from the New York Times article (read here) The print version was a full cover page and inside spread and the headlines were all changed to be more book focussed and that was a much better experience for me. I tried on 10000 outfits for this shoot and ended up in the simplicity of a tee shirt and jeans probably due to overwhelm lol. You all already know about my favorite white tee from Jenni Kayne, paired with these awesome wide leg and dark wash jeans.
Bonus Tour Items:
Men’s Everyday Compression Socks that fit our calves
Megababe Bust Dust which kept me sweat stain free
Lobby Coffee spread winner: The Four Seasons Austin! It was set up in and out in 5am hour and included fresh muffins. YES!
Amazing. Reading the book now and I immediately stopped and went to the tailor with my new Tanya Taylor suit that didn’t fit perfectly. Yay!
Still can’t imagine where the got the extra fabric from? The waistband? The cuff? Like I am going to copy this ASAP.
How you doing
